Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the private sector is driving an economic resurgence in the United States, citing job growth, a smaller federal workforce and rising wages.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Bessent wrote that more than one million private-sector jobs have been created since January 2025 [2]. He said the federal workforce has been reduced to its lowest levels since the 1960s [2].

Bessent also wrote that more than 1.3 million additional native-born Americans are working [2]. He described these developments as signs of an economy powered by investment, opportunity and American workers [2].

The Treasury Department later posted remarks from Bessent on its own X account. "We saw the PMI numbers today—the strongest since 2021," he said [1].

Bessent said the country has "seen over a million private-sector jobs created" and is "seeing real wage growth" [1]. He contrasted that with the Biden administration, saying "we had negative wage growth" under it, and said the current wage growth "is going to continue" [1].

The posts do not say where Bessent made the remarks. They do not identify the source of the job and employment figures or give the PMI reading he cited. His comparison with the previous administration is his own characterization.
