The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Sunday night to even the National League Division Series at a game apiece, according to The Associated Press. The Dodgers had won Game 1, 5-3. [5]
Harris scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch by Dodgers reliever Kris Bubic after hitting a two-out triple, his first in the postseason, the AP reported. Harris added an RBI double in the seventh, and also singled in the third. [5]
Atlanta took a 1-0 lead in the first when Mauricio Dubón singled with the bases loaded and two outs, scoring Ronald Acuña Jr. Freddie Freeman tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with a solo home run off Braves reliever Grant Holmes. It was Freeman's first postseason series against his former team, the AP said. [5, 3]
Both teams leaned on their bullpens. Braves starter Ray Kerr pitched 2 2/3 innings without allowing a run, according to Jeff Passan, who wrote on X that Robert Suarez "was nails" and that Didier Fuentes "retired 11 straight before allowing a homer." [1] The AP reported that Atlanta's relievers retired 14 straight Dodgers hitters after the first two batters reached in the fifth. [5]
Max Muncy hit a two-out, two-strike home run off Fuentes in the ninth to make it 3-2. Braves closer Raisel Iglesias then got pinch-hitter Josue De Paula to foul out, ending the game and earning the save. [5]
Braves manager Walt Weiss said: “Getting the split in this place against these guys, yeah, it’s awesome.” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the Braves' pitching approach: “They’re going to use any pitcher, try to get every matchup possible.” [5]
Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, threw 90 pitches, 47 of them for strikes, and allowed one run on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts. A team spokesman said Snell was not available to speak with reporters because of a family emergency. [5]
The series moves to Atlanta after a travel day. Braves left-hander Chris Sale is scheduled to start Game 3 on Tuesday against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. [5, 1]
