Passan described the game as a battle of the bullpens. [1]
The ninth inning drew attention. Padres hitter Ty France hit a ball that Passan described as a potential go-ahead shot. It hit the roof and came down into Chourio's glove for an out. ESPN reported that San Diego reached the division series after a wild-card sweep of the Chicago Cubs. It also reported that pitcher Joe Musgrove, back from Tommy John surgery, worked a scoreless ninth inning in that wild-card series. [6]
ESPN also reported that the Padres placed pitcher Walker Buehler on the postseason paternity list for one to three days. Right-hander Randy Vásquez replaced Buehler on the roster during that period. [6]
