The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday at American Family Field and took a 2-0 lead in the National League Division Series. Milwaukee, which went 103-59 in the regular season, needs one more win to advance. [1]

Jackson Chourio delivered the decisive hit, a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning off Padres closer Mason Miller, according to The Associated Press. The Brewers trailed 3-2 when Miller entered. Milwaukee scored two runs in the ninth to win, and Megill was credited with the victory. [1][2]

According to the AP, Miller was trying for his first six-out save since 2024. He retired the side in order in the eighth. In the ninth, after a leadoff groundout, he walked Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick, his first career postseason walks. Andrew Vaughn flied out, and pinch hitter Gary Sánchez walked on a full count. Chourio, 22, then lined a 101.3 mph fastball up the middle, and Yelich and Frelick scored. [2]

Miller threw 40 pitches, the AP reported, his most since 2023. He reached 100 mph with 18 of them. [2]

San Diego scored first on an RBI single by France in the first inning and went ahead 3-1 in the seventh on another run-scoring single from France, after Milwaukee third baseman David Hamilton bobbled a grounder for an error, the AP said. Milwaukee had no baserunner against Padres starter Michael King until the fifth, when Frelick drove in a run after a Yelich double. Milwaukee matched its season high with three errors, and San Diego scored a pair of unearned runs, according to the AP. [1][2]

The Brewers pulled within 3-2 in the seventh when Garrett Mitchell scored from third as Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth bobbled a grounder and then threw past first for a double error, the AP reported. [2]

The Padres, 91-71 in the regular season, have lost two straight for the first time since Sept. 1-2, according to the AP. San Diego had won 20 of its last 23 games entering the postseason. The series resumes Tuesday in San Diego. [1][2]
