The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement has launched a nationwide public safety operation focused on sanctuary cities, according to a post on X from the department's @DHSgov account.
DHS said the operation targets people it describes as criminal immigrants who are in the United States illegally, including many it said had been released from jail by "sanctuary politicians." The department said those being targeted include people accused of murder, rape, child sex crimes and gang activity.
"This is false. No one is off the table," DHS wrote, without specifying what claim it was responding to. "We will continue to arrest any and all illegal aliens that come into our path."
The department said anyone in the country illegally will be arrested and deported.
