The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 on Saturday in Game 1 of the National League Division Series and lead the series 1-0. [1]

Tarik Skubal pitched six innings for the win, allowing one run and two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks, according to The Associated Press. It was the first postseason start at home of Skubal's career. The Dodgers acquired Skubal from the Detroit Tigers just before the Aug. 3 trade deadline, AP reported. [1][2]

Teoscar Hernández and Kyle Tucker each went 2 for 4 with two RBI and hit two-run homers off the Braves' bullpen. Hernández's 431-foot shot in the fourth off Victor Mederos made it 2-0. Tucker went deep in the sixth, and Max Muncy followed with a solo homer off AJ Smith-Shawver two batters later to make it 5-1. [1][2]

The Braves, who managed four hits, cut the gap in the sixth when Sean Murphy led off with a homer. Ronald Acuña Jr. singled to start the ninth, and Ozzie Albies then hit a two-run homer off Tanner Scott to make it 5-3, AP reported. Scott got two outs, and Evan Phillips ended the game by getting Austin Riley to ground out with a runner on. [1][2]

Braves starter Dylan Dodd threw three scoreless innings, allowing only singles to Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, according to AP. [2]

AP reported that the game-time temperature was 100 degrees, just short of the Dodger Stadium record of 103 set at Game 1 of the 2017 World Series. An extreme heat warning remains in effect for Game 2. “To go through six in these conditions I thought was fantastic,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. [2]

Game 2 is Sunday evening at Dodger Stadium. Blake Snell will start for Los Angeles. [2]
