Microsoft announces biggest Copilot update, adding autopilot agent, coding tool and Office integration

Microsoft has announced what Satya Nadella called its biggest update to Copilot to date. Nadella made the announcement in a post on X on Sept. 25. [1]

Nadella described Copilot as a new operating system for work that spans every model, form factor and task. The update brings four elements together, Nadella wrote. [1]

Autopilot is described as a proactive, long-running agent built for the enterprise. Code lets users build apps with Copilot, hosted inside a company's own tenant. Home combines Chat and Cowork. Office is now fully embedded in Copilot, and Copilot is embedded in Office, Nadella said. [1]

Nadella also said Copilot can now be invoked in Teams. A new feature called Today surfaces the most important information from across M365 without users needing to ask for it. [1]

Nadella said work and workflows are changing, and that the update is meant to bring AI into that flow, from answering a question to building an app to completing tasks on a user's behalf. [1]

In a later post, Nadella said the motivation is that intelligence is accelerating quickly and now needs to be spread everywhere. [2]

Microsoft's official account also posted about the product, calling @MSFTCopilot the new OS for work and saying it was designed to help humans remain in control. [3] The posts do not give a release schedule or pricing.
