Netanyahu condemns violent riots in Samaria; IDF says Israeli rioters injured three Border Police officers near Jalud

Israel's prime minister condemned violent riots in Samaria, and separately the Israel Defense Forces described Israeli rioters injuring three Border Police officers near Jalud.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a post on X that soldiers and Border Police operated overnight in the Jalud area to disperse the rioters and protect local residents. The military said the return of a Palestinian family to their home there had been coordinated in advance. [2]

According to the IDF, the rioters blocked roads, set fires, set structures and vehicles alight, and hurled rocks at security forces. Three Border Police officers were hurt. [2]

The IDF said forces detained two suspects, who were handed over for questioning. It said security forces would later return to the area to collect findings and evidence, and that an investigation has been opened. [2]

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X that he "strongly condemn[s] the violent riots last night in Samaria and the harm to the security forces who arrived at the scene to maintain law and order." His post does not name Jalud or specify which incident he was referring to. [1]

Netanyahu said a "handful of rioters" do not represent what the prime minister called the law-abiding settler public in Judea and Samaria, and that they cause it "immense injustice." The prime minister said he fully supports the IDF and Border Police and called on law enforcement authorities to prosecute the rioters "to the full extent of the law." [1]
