The San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Tuesday night to avoid elimination in the National League Division Series. The win cut Milwaukee's lead in the best-of-five series to 2-1. [5][6]

The Padres scored first. Samad Taylor scored on a base hit by Jackson Merrill in the third inning, and third baseman Manny Machado drove in another run to make it 2-0. Milwaukee tied the game on a solo homer by William Contreras and a sacrifice fly by Jackson Chourio. [5]

Jake Cronenworth then led off the fifth inning with a home run, which MLB said on X put the Padres back in front. [3][5] San Diego added a run in the sixth, when Bogaerts scored after Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt's throw bounced and got past first baseman Jake Bauers following a broken-bat grounder from Miguel Andujar. [5][6]

Michael King, who started Game 2 on Sunday, came out of the bullpen for the eighth and ninth innings. The Padres were without closer Mason Miller, who went on the paternity list about 45 minutes before the first pitch. Setup man Adrian Morejon was also unavailable because of a stiff shoulder. [5][6]

In the ninth, King walked Contreras and Brice Turang with one out. Christian Yelich then hit a 107 mph line drive at Bogaerts, who fielded it on a short hop, touched second base and threw to first for the game-ending double play. [5][6]

"I know that I have bullets in my arm that I don't want to save," King said. [5][6]

Milwaukee has lost 12 consecutive postseason road games, dating to the 2018 NLCS, according to the Associated Press. [5][6]
